Mike Pappas, age 88, beloved husband of Maria Pappas for 60 years, passed away peacefully at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts, on March 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 27, 1937, just outside Patras, Greece, Mike was the son of the late Sotirios and Despena Pappastathopoulos. He was predeceased by his brothers, Peter and Vasilios Pappas and his sister, Marina Rougals.
Mike was the devoted father of Sotirios “Sam” Pappas and his wife Cindy Thomas-Pappas, of Walpole and George Pappas of Foxboro. Mike also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Maria Pappas and Anna Kazis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in both the United States and Greece.
A veteran of the Greek Military, Mike immigrated to America in 1974 with his wife and two young sons in pursuit of the American Dream. Through hard work, determination, and unwavering integrity, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating two Dairy Queen franchises. Although Mike retired several years ago, he continued to find joy in visiting the Dairy Queen in Foxboro where he could often be found helping his son manage and operate the business he loved.
Mike was deeply proud of his Greek heritage and equally proud to become a United States citizen, embracing both cultures throughout his life.
Mike loved and found great happiness in tending to his garden and going deep sea fishing. A devoted Boston sports fan, Mike loved watching the Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. Above all else, Mike cherished time spent with his family, especially his beloved wife of 60 years, Maria.
Mike was known for his kindness and generosity and was a welcoming presence to all who knew him. He supported many causes close to his heart and lived his life grounded in faith. He was a longtime, devoted member of Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, where he worshipped alongside his wife.
Mike will be remembered for his warm spirit, positive outlook, and the simple but powerful words of wisdom he shared with all: “Always be happy”, “Make yourself happy”.
His memory will be eternal.
