Nora Kierys

October 14, 1939 — November 10, 2022

Nora (Vaillancourt) Kierys, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Norwood Healthcare in Norwood, Massachusetts.  Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on October 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Agnes M. (Hayes) Vaillancourt.  She was raised in Taunton, where she graduated from Saint Mary's Catholic Girls High School with the Class of 1957.  Nora continued her education at the Union Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River, earning her registered nurse's certificate in 1960.

Nora's career in nursing began in the Morton Hospital in her hometown of Taunton, working in various units around the hospital, wherever she was needed most.  Ten years later, in 1971, Nora took a position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, working as a nurse in the Taunton State Hospital.  She was named head nurse on the chronic floor and passed on her knowledge of psychiatric affiliation to incoming nursing students.  In 1973, Nora returned to Morton Hospital, taking on the role of charge nurse in the outpatient department.

A year after returning to Morton, Nora moved her family from her hometown, settling in Walpole, Massachusetts.  She continued making the commute to Taunton until taking the charge nurse position in the Emergency Department of Milton Hospital in 1978.  In the 1980s, Nora returned to her own education, earning her associates degree from Fisher Junior College and in the late 1980s, she returned to Taunton, where she made her home until her retirement in 2004.

In her retirement, Nora headed south, away from the cold and snow of New England, making her home in sunny North Fort Myers, Florida.  After settling in Florida, Nora sought out a volunteer position at Lee Hospital, keeping her nursing skills sharp and helping out where she could.  While she enjoyed spending time in the sunshine state, Nora looked forward to traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her family, making wonderful memories along the way.  More recently, Nora made her home in Walpole once more, so she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Throughout her life, Nora maintained a full social calendar, spending time with her family and friends.  She was an avid bowler and enjoyed comradery in several bowling leagues.  She enjoyed trying her luck on the casino floor, playing Texas Holdem or Bingo.  In addition, if there was a show in town that she wanted to see, Nora could be found in the audience, whether on Broadway, in a movie theater, or at the local high school.
