Patricia L. Monk

February 24, 1929 — November 17, 2022

Patricia L. Monk of Sharon, MA passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022, at the age of 93 with family by her side. Born in Stonehouse, England, Patricia is survived by her 3 children, Stephen, Susan, and Christina, and their spouses, Paul, Ed and Greg, her 2 grandchildren, Brian and Sarah, and 2 step-grandchildren, Emma and Ruthie, who all mourn her loss.

Before marrying, Patricia studied bookkeeping in school. In her spare time, she was a ballroom dance enthusiast, dancing the foxtrot, quickstep, tango, and the waltz, for which she won several awards and trophies, most notably in 1949 for the waltz.

Patricia met her husband Malcolm at a dance at the Subscription Rooms in Gloucestershire, England, and married in 1956. They emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1957 where all 3 children were born. While raising her young children, Patricia took up the unusual sport of curling as a hobby. In 1969 the family moved to Rochester, NY and then to Sharon, MA in 1981.

After moving to Sharon, Patricia enjoyed full-time gardening in retirement. She and Malcolm, her husband of 60 years, designed and landscaped beautiful flower and vegetable gardens which they doted on for over 30 years. They received many awards for their work from The Garden Club Federation of MA Inc. Besides giving tours of their garden to passersby, Patricia held annual plant sales to educate people about plants. She was a Life Member of the Sharon Garden Club.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Brightview , Canton who were kind and loving to our mother in her last few years.

Patricia will be remembered for her love of England, her birth country, for her devotion to and expertise in gardening, for her stoic yet gentle comport and for her British sense of humor. Many will also miss her famous shortbread- the recipe of which was kept secret for many years.
