Paul Dana Henneberry, age 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Milton, Massachusetts, on January 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Mary Agnes (Finlay) Henneberry. Paul grew up across New England, spending some time in Rutland, Vermont, and Connecticut before his family settled in the Boston area. He graduated from Boston College High School and started his college journey at Boston College before being commissioned into the United States Coast Guard. Paul then attended the United States Coast Guard Academy for four years, where he received training and education in all areas of service and earned his bachelor’s degree in finance.
Just a few days after graduating from the Coast Guard Academy, Paul married his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Harney, on June 2, 1956, at Saint Theresa's Church in West Roxbury. The young couple made their home wherever Paul was stationed and were blessed with four children along the way. As the Vietnam War escalated, Paul responded to the call and served proudly, helping in the war effort. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded the Bronze Star and several other citations during his Coast Guard career. In the late 1960s, Paul attended the Navy’s Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and earned his master’s degree in 1967. His education and experience led him to serve at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, before retiring in 1984 with the rank of Captain. After retiring, Paul and Mary settled in Springfield, Virginia, and Paul began a new career with a finance company in Alexandria.
Two years later, Paul and Mary returned to New England, making Walpole, Massachusetts, their home. Once settled, Paul quickly found work nearby in Norwood as the Purchasing Coordinator and Bill Office Manager at Town Hall. In 1996, he joined the Norwood Light Department, where he served as manager until his retirement.
Throughout his life, Paul was known as a true 'jack of all trades' there was hardly a project he couldn’t handle. He had a real passion for cars and anything automotive. He was also quick to embrace new technology, often buying the latest gadgets for his family and figuring out how everything worked on his own.
Travel was a big part of Paul’s life, especially adventures with Mary. They visited Bermuda several times, traveled across the Atlantic to explore Ireland and Italy, and enjoyed many relaxing cruises. Paul loved being by the ocean and had a special interest in famous lighthouses, knowing the history of most along Cape Cod and the Outer Banks. He enjoyed sharing fun facts and tidbits about them with his family.
At home, Paul was a dedicated member of the Norwood Men’s Club, spending time with friends and working on perfecting his golf game. He was also active in his faith as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1319 in Walpole, always living out his Catholic values.
