Peter T. Norwell

Peter T. Norwell, age 74, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in the Morton Hospital in Taunton, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on November 18, 1946, he was the son of the late Bruce and Mary L. (Costello) Norwell. He was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where, as a young man, he found his love for hockey, playing on the local ponds. He went on to play for Walpole High School's Varsity Hockey team before graduating with the Class of 1964. Peter took his hockey skills to Providence College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1968.

Following his graduation from Providence College, Peter made his home in Rhode Island and began his career in insurance, taking a sales position with Traveler's Insurance Company. In 1973, he returned to his hometown of Walpole and took a sales position with the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. Peter made his home in Plainville, Massachusetts beginning in 1978, and enjoyed taking an active role in his new community. He was a member of the Plainville Lions Club for many years and served his fellow citizens on the Finance Committee.

In 1982, Peter moved to Foxborough, Massachusetts and two years later, he partnered with his brother, Jack, to form Norwell and Norwell Insurance on Main Street in Walpole. Peter enjoyed a long career in Walpole Center and eventually returned to make his home in Walpole in 1992. He looked forward to helping his many clients over the years before his retirement in 2008.

When Peter wasn't hard at work, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course at Foxborough Country Club, where he was a longtime member. Back at home, as an avid Boston sports fan, he was always sure to catch the game.

Devoted son of the late Bruce and Mary L. (Costello) Norwell.

Loving brother of John 'Jack' F. Norwell and his wife, Beverly, of Walpole, Mark A. Norwell and his wife, Karen, of Rockland, and the late Bruce H. Norwell, III and his surviving wife, Dorothy Norwell Coker.

Cherished uncle of Bruce Norwell, IV and his wife, Amy, of Walpole, Scott Norwell and his wife, Elizabeth, of Jersey City, New Jersey, Julie Norwell and her husband, Russell Charlton, of Manhattan, Brian Norwell and his wife, Sharon, of Erie, Colorado, John Norwell, Jr. of Walpole, Andrea Preto and her husband, John, of Walpole, Steve Slack of Rockland, and Stacy Troy, and her husband, Mark, of Cape Coral, Florida.

Also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Peter's Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:30 AM. As a result of the ongoing and ever developing health crisis in the world Peter's visiting hours will be respectfully omitted and his interment will take place privately at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
