Richard Adams

Richard Adams, age 78, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on January 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Theodore and Frances (Morrisey) Adams. Rich was raised in Quincy, where, as a young boy, he found his natural athletic talent. As the son of an amateur golfer, Rich learned the game with his brothers at Wollaston Golf Club. He was also a standout athlete on the basketball court, and he spent his childhood days playing basketball on the Elm Street playground with his friends, bringing his skills with him to Quincy High School, and then continued to play basketball for Bentley College. Rich proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Upon his return home to Quincy, Rich worked as an accountant with Bird and Son in East Walpole. His love of ice cream and golf led him to own and operate McGolf Ice Cream in Dedham and later Super Sports Amusement Park in Carver. Rich then began his career in computer software at Winstar Technologies in Norwood, where he rose to Vice President of Sales before his retirement in 2016.

Throughout his life, Rich loved the game of golf, perfecting his skills over the years. As a young man, he played in many tournaments, earning accolades and awards. His love of golf lasted his whole life, playing countless courses but always coming home to Walpole Country Club. His love of sports did not end with golf, as Rich was an avid Boston sports fan, following the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics.

Rich married his beloved wife, Caren Cummings, in a second marriage for both, on August 2, 2008, at Charles River Country Club in Newton. The couple made their home in Newton and then built their dream home in Walpole. Upon retirement, Rich and Caren explored destinations around the world and played legendary golf courses. Back at home in Walpole, Rich could be found in his yard, meticulously caring for his lawn and gardens. As a true handyman, Rich put his carpentry and electrical skills to use around the house.

More than anything, Rich was devoted to his family. At a young age, he lost his dad and quickly stepped into a fatherly role for his youngest brother. After welcoming his own children, Rich was a dedicated father, teaching them about life, responsibilities, and most importantly how to have fun. Rich passed his love of sports to his sons and made sure to attend all of his kids' games and events and volunteered as a basketball coach. Rich was delighted to welcome his grandchildren and loved the opportunity to pass on his love of sports to another generation.

Beloved husband of Caren Cummings. Loving father of Matthew Adams and his wife, Clarissa, of Quincy, Christopher Adams of Walpole, Andrew Adams and his partner, Christine, of Walpole, Rayna Cummings and her husband, Jacob Post, of Walpole, and Michael Cummings of Brooklyn, New York.

Cherished grandfather of Isabelle Adams, Victoria Adams, Boston Adams, Hudson Adams, Liam Adams, Charlie Adams, Rudy Post, and Theo Post.

Brother of the late Theodore "Ted" Adams and his wife, Glenda, the late Susan Riley, Doug Adams and his wife, Iris, Phil Adams, and James Adams and his wife, Robin.
