Richard Andrew Betro

Richard Andrew Betro, age 71, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Falmouth Hospital in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 6, 1955, he was the son of the late Gerald J. Betro and Evelyn H. (Scheller) Hodge. Richard was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where at a young age he found his love for football. He brought his gridiron skill set to Xaverian Brother's High School in Westwood, serving with the team's offensive line before graduating with the Class of 1973. Following his graduation, Richard attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, before earning his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in 1977.

He spent much of his professional life in radio advertising sales throughout New England, working with stations including WBCN, WAAF, and B101 in Providence. What he valued most, however, were the relationships he built along the way. He took pride in serving his clients with dedication and integrity, often turning professional connections into lasting friendships built on trust and mutual respect.

Throughout his life, Richard maintained his passion for football and music. He played semi-professional football until he was in his mid-30s, serving as the offensive guard for the Randolph Oilers. Second to football was music, taking up the bass guitar, Richard formed the "Screamin’ Cadillacs" featuring his renditions of classic rock songs. He shared his passions with his two boys, encouraging Kevin to learn guitar and guiding Ryan on the football field. In more recent years, Richard loved taking to the ocean, serving as the captain of his vessel “Pamboola” and finding the best spots to fish from Falmouth to Martha's Vineyard. He also enjoyed gathering with his Xaverian brothers, talking about days gone by over his favorite cigar.

More than anything, Richard loved spending time with his family. He adored his wife, Pam, often referring to her as his best friend. They loved their morning coffee rides together, usually ending at a local beach. The beach was their special place, taking in the sounds of the ocean and feeling the sand beneath their feet. As a devoted Dad, Richard was incredibly proud of his two sons, offering life advice and celebrating all of their victories. Recently, Richard was blessed with a grandson, Jack. He was delighted at receiving the title of “Pops” watching Jack as he grew over the past year.

Beloved husband of Pamela (Blue) Betro.

Loving father of Kevin P. Betro and his wife, Patricia Gearty, of East Boston and Ryan J. Betro of South Boston.

Cherished grandfather of Jack Charles Betro.

Brother of Felix X. Betro and his wife, Patricia, of Franklin, Gerald J. Betro Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Norton, and Karen E. Willox of Dedham.

Nephew of Lucille Betro of Walpole, and cousin of Peter Betro and Maria Betro.

Also survived by his many friends, especially his brothers from days at Xaverian.

Richard was predeceased by his best friend, William L Daniel, Jr.
