Richard John Montaquila, age 72, passed away on Tuesday November 11th, 2025, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida, surrounded by his family. Born in Leominster, Massachusetts on August 17th, 1953, he was the son of the late John F. and Gertrude (Bessette) Montaquila. Rick graduated from Leominster High School, class of 1971, and later enjoyed a successful career in the information technology field, working first as a Systems Engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation and later for General Electric.
Rick was a talented musician who began his music career in high school. He played in several local bands and played at the weddings of many of his friend’s children. His love of music was ever present. He built an expansive collection of music embracing rock, jazz and classical genres which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends and as a result, his kids shared his same love of music. He met his future wife Jane (Lanier) while working at Digital Equipment Corporation in Marlboro, MA. Rick and Jane shared 37 memorable years together raising their children, traveling together and enjoying their retirement home in Florida.
Rick loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his bike, relaxing on the beach or in the pool or just taking long walks with Jane in the warm Florida sun. His lifelong friends Ann and Rick Grogan held a special place in Rick’s heart, with him often reminiscing about the good times they shared in Leominster or in Wells Beach, Maine. More than anything else Rick was the happiest with his family around him, enjoying being together and creating memories.
Loving husband of Jane (Lanier) Montaquila.
Devoted father of Andrew Lull and his wife Kate of Thetford, Vermont, Hannah Lull and her husband Ben of Livermore Falls, Maine, John Montaquila and his partner Monique of Gardner, Massachusetts, and Stephanie Montaquila of Westminster, Massachusetts.
Rick was most recently the proud and cherished Grandpa of Bodhi!
Brother of Brian D. Montaquila of Nashua, New Hampshire, Janis Zimmerman and her husband Gary of Leominster, Massachusetts.
