Richard H. Nahmias

April 22, 1948 — December 24, 2018

Richard (Rich) H. Nahmias, 70, of Foxboro, MA, passed away at home with his family by his side on December 24, 2018 after a 12-year battle with multiple cancers. Rich will be remembered for his corny sense of humor, his creativity, his meticulous attention to detail and his love of Mozzicato’s pastries. His favorite pastimes were fishing, canoeing, camping and spending time with his family.

He was born April 22, 1948 in New York, NY, graduated from Jericho High School in Jericho, NY and in 1970 received a BS Degree in Mathematics from C.W. Post College of Long Island University, Brookville, NY.

Rich resided in Wethersfield, CT for many years while working at Aetna Insurance Company and as a Management Consultant for Coopers & Lybrand in Hartford, CT before starting his own management consulting business, Nahmias & Co.  In 2012, he and his wife moved to Smithfield, RI and then to Foxboro, MA.

In high school Rich discovered he enjoyed working with the intellectually disabled and spent summers working at the AHRC Nassau summer camp in Brookville, NY.  Later in the Hartford, CT area, he served on the board of HARC, Inc., advocating for employment opportunities for the intellectually disabled.  During the summers of his college years, he pursued his love of theatre by working as a stage hand at Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, NY.  While living in the Hartford, CT area, he had a minor role in an episode of American Playhouse entitled The Shady Hill Kidnapping. After being diagnosed with cancer, Rich wanted to give back to others and found it extremely rewarding to volunteer at Camp Sunshine in Casco, ME, a free, year-round camp retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

Rich is survived by his wife of thirty years, Kathleen W. Silva; his 98-year-old mother, Nicoletta (Nettie) Nahmias; his two brothers, Albert Nahmias and wife Susan of Danbury, CT, and Robert Nahmias and wife Lynne of Duxbury, MA; his three children, Andrea Sergio of Ardmore, PA, Christina Engel and husband John of Wethersfield, CT, and Michael Nahmias of Boston, MA; his grandchildren Alexandra and Emily Sergio, Mollie and Jacob Engel and great-granddaughter Adelynn McCarty; and his extended family and friends.  He is predeceased by his father, Harold H. Nahmias, and his beloved Pug, Pal.

All family and friends are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life, which will be held on January 5, 2019 at Powissett Lodge, Hale Reservation, 80 Carby Street, Westwood, MA from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Rich’s memory may be made to one of his preferred charities:  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Camp Sunshine, or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Rich’s family wishes to thank his oncology team at Dana-Farber for fostering hope during his comprehensive and lengthy cancer treatment, while also mindfully upholding his quality of life.  Our appreciation also extends to Old Colony Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care and support in the last days of his life.
