Robert William Brady

Jun 5, 1931 — Dec 20, 2018

Robert William Brady, age 87, passed away in the Walpole Healthcare Center on Thursday, December 20, 2018.  Born in Natick, Massachusetts on June 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Jennie E. (Mansfield) Brady.  Bob spent his early years in Brooklyn, New York before his family settled in Medfield, Massachusetts, where he attended Medfield High School.  Before graduation, Bob left his education to enlist in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean War.  After four years of faithful service, Bob was honorably discharged in May of 1952.  He returned to Massachusetts, making his home in Braintree.

Bob married his wife, Theresa F. O’Sullivan, on June 28, 1953 in Saint Monica’s Church in Queens, New York.  The young couple made their home together in Braintree, where Bob began his career in law enforcement with the Braintree Auxiliary Police Department.  In 1954, he and Theresa settled in Medfield to raise their family and Bob took a full-time patrolman’s position with the Medfield Police Department.  In the late 1960s, Bob returned to his education, taking courses in criminal justice at Dean College in Franklin.  He earned his Associates Degree in 1972.  As a dedicated police officer, Bob was a long-time member of the Massachusetts Police Association and the Norfolk County Police Pistol League.  He retired from the Medfield Police Department in 1994, after many years of dedicated service to the citizens in his community.

In his off time, Bob enjoyed staying physically fit, running daily with his beloved dog.  As an avid runner, he trained for and participated in the Boston Marathon.  He also enjoyed spending time on board his brother’s boat, as the two would set out on adventures throughout the riverways surrounding Boston.  Bob was a man of great faith and was an active member of Saint Edward the Confessor Church in Medfield for many years.  He served as a CCD teacher, on the parish council, and as an usher at Sunday Mass.  Most of all, Bob was a devoted family man.  He loved being surrounded by those he cared for and was especially delighted at the birth of his grandchildren, taking an active role in their upbringing.

Bob’s life was greatly enriched after marrying Mary M. Rockwood of Walpole on April 20, 2013.  He embraced his new community of Walpole with open arms.  Mary lovingly cared for Bob over the last few years, both at home and while he was at Walpole Healthcare.

Beloved husband of Mary M. (O’Connor) Rockwood Brady and the late Theresa F. (O’Sullivan) Brady.
Loving father of Theresa E. Hudson of Foxborough, Michael J. Brady of Dunedin, Florida, Kevin P. Brady of Tucson, Arizona, John F. Brady of Medway, and the late Matthew T. Brady.
Cherished grandfather of 5 and great grandfather of 3.
