Emblem

Ronald Alonzo Hurd, age 86, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham, Massachusetts, with his family by his side. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on October 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Albert and Bertha Louise (Randall) Hurd. Ron was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1958. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country as an Airman First Class.

Following his honorable discharge in 1962, Ron returned home to Walpole and quickly found work with Harwood Engineering on South Street. Four years later, he married the love of his life, Beatrice Elen Durning, on September 24, 1966, at United Church in Walpole. Ron and Beatrice made their home in Walpole, welcoming two children, Kim and Peter, but often looked forward to traveling north to their camp in Rangeley, Maine. Ron maintained his career as a hydraulic technician with Harwood Engineering for many years before his retirement in January of 2020, at the age of 80.

Throughout his life, Ron loved working with his hands, there was no project too big or too small and he accomplished each one with precision. In Walpole, he restored a Ford 9N Tractor to factory specifications, ensuring the rebuild was perfect. In Rangeley, Ron helped construct an A-frame home for his family to enjoy, in addition to restoring a Rangeley boat that his father had owned.

Beloved husband of Beatrice Elen (Durning) Hurd.

Loving father of Kim A. Hurd-Koss and her husband Andrew of Middleboro and Peter J. Hurd of Hanover.

Cherished grandfather of Kaitlyn Koss and Brandon Hurd.

Brother of the late Judith L. Goodwin.

At the request of Ron's family, all his funeral services will take place privately, with interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ron's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association by mailing a check to 320 Nevada Street, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460 or by visiting https://www.alz.org/manh.
