Roy F. Forgit

January 3, 1936 — October 19, 2020

Roy F. Forgit, age 84, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 in his Walpole, Massachusetts home.  Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on January 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Armand and Jeannette (Roy) Forgit.  He was raised in Worcester, where he graduated from Saint Peter's High School with the Class of 1954.  Roy enlisted in the United States Army in 1956.  He was stationed in Europe and earned the rank of Specialist, prior to his honorable discharge in July of 1959.

Roy began his academic studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was granted a bachelor's degree in economics in 1963.  He took a position with Norton Company in Worcester, where he met his first wife, Lucy.  They married on April 12, 1969.  He earned his Master's of Business Administration at Clark University in 1970, just months before the birth of his first daughter.  He took a job transfer to Ohio for a few years where his second daughter was born.   In 1975, he accepted a job with Blanchard Abrasives and moved the family back to Massachusetts.  He and Lucy purchased a home in Rowley, MA where they raised their two daughters.  Roy held positions in Manufacturing and Technical Sales for several companies over the years. After his retirement, he worked part time as a security guard.

In the early 1990s, Roy moved back to his hometown of Worcester. After several years of divorced life, a twist of fate reunited Roy with an old acquaintance when his youngest daughter became college roommates with the daughter of Lorna (Donovan) Kirkpatrick.    They had a long courtship and then married on January 21, 2005.  Together Roy and Lorna made their home in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  Three years after their wedding, Lorna passed and Roy relocated to Walpole, Massachusetts to be closer to his daughters.

Throughout his life, Roy loved being outdoors.  He enjoyed walking local beaches, hiking, golfing, cross country skiing, gardening and building rock walls.  Roy enjoyed his quiet time too, working on crossword puzzles or reading about various people throughout history.  However, his greatest passion was storytelling, both verbal and written.  He became very interested in genealogy and traced his own family's history.  He was a member of the American French Genealogical Society, serving on the Board of Directors for several years.  He combined his research and oral family history into wonderful stories that he loved to share with his family.

Beloved husband of the late Lorna (Donovan) Kirkpatrick Forgit and former husband of Lucy Erkkila of Melrose.
Loving father of Rachael A. Forgit and her husband, Graham Rippel, of East Walpole and Rebecca L. Ewell and her husband, Jeremy, of Rowley.
Cherished grandfather of Grayden, Grace, Nathan, Alyssa, and Laura.
Brother of Lorraine Classen of Florida, Anne Daigneault of Oklahoma, and Peggy Leveille of Leicester MA, the late Richard Forgit, and the late Pauline Vallee.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Roy's Life Celebration on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 2 to 5 PM in the James H.
