Ruth Elaine Cusick

Ruth Elaine (Delaney) Cusick, age 89, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Port Charlotte, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Loretta J. (Dolan) Delaney. Ruth was raised in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston and graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain with the Class of 1953. Following her graduation, Ruth took a secretarial position at the Chrysler Motor Company.

While in high school, Ruth was introduced to the love of her life, John F. "Jack" Cusick, by a mutual friend. Their courtship continued after graduation and through Jack's time in the Army. They exchanged wedding vows on June 25, 1960, at Saint Theresa Avila Church in West Roxbury. Ruth and Jack settled in Walpole, Massachusetts to raise their eight children. Ruth's devotion to her faith led her to Blessed Sacrament Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister for years. Once her children had grown up, Ruth accepted a job at Holt's Department Store in Walpole, where she made many long-term friends. Through the years she enjoyed summer vacations on Cape Cod and Naples, Maine. Later she settled in Mashpee, Massachusetts and escaped with Jack to Venice, Florida in the winters. More recently, they made their permanent home in Lake Suzy. While living in Florida, Ruth and Jack were inseparable, whether trying out a new restaurant for lunch or quietly sitting on the couch holding hands and watching movies together. 

Most of all, Ruth was devoted to her family and friends. She loved hosting the holidays, baby showers and family gatherings. She loved Irish music especially The Clancy Brothers and enjoyed watching Patriots games. Ruth was ecstatic to welcome her grandchildren into the world, building an incredibly special relationship with each one of her nineteen grand babies. She always set time aside to listen to her grandchildren's stories and celebrate all of their accomplishments. 

Beloved wife of the late John F. "Jack" Cusick. Loving mother of Robert Cusick and his wife, Kim, Lisa Cusick, Karen Lee, Michelle Walsh and her husband, Pete, Stephen Cusick and his wife, Andrea, Jennifer Wieda and her husband, Sean, the late Paul Cusick, and the late Allison Cusick. Cherished grandmother of nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Sister of the late Joan Eckhardt.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ruth's Mass that will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted at the request of Ruth's family.
