Shawn D. McDonald

September 24, 1966 — December 12, 2021

Shawn D. McDonald, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 24, 1966, he was the son of Jeffrey M. and Kathleen M. (MacDonald) McDonald. He was raised in Westwood, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Xaverian Brother's High School with the Class of 1985.

Following his graduation, Shawn began serving an apprenticeship with the Pipefitters Union, Local 537, in Boston. He remained with the union for five years until forming his landscaping company, McDonald Landscape Service. Shawn proudly owned and operated his company for more than thirty years, caring for his client’s yard projects.

Shawn married his beloved wife, Susan M. Breare, on November 26, 2006 in Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood. Together, Shawn and Susan made their home in Walpole, Massachusetts, where they raised their daughter Haley. Haley was the light of Shawn's world, and he treasured every moment they spent together, regularly volunteering to help with anything she needed.

In addition to volunteering with his daughter's events, Shawn also enjoyed giving back to his community, serving as a member of the Walpole Ponds Committee, and helping out at their Lodge on Turner's Pond. While he worked hard, Shawn knew how to cut loose and have fun, throwing his leg over his Harley Davidson Motorcycle for an adventure on the road. Often his trips would take him to the beach to catch a sunrise or check out a new lighthouse, but the road always led him home to his family and friends. Back at home, Shawn was an avid New England Patriots fan, spending autumn Sundays at Gillette Stadium, cheering for his favorite team.

Beloved husband of Susan M. (Breare) McDonald.
Loving father of Haley Ann McDonald of Walpole.
Devoted son of Kathleen M. (MacDonald) McDonald and the late Jeffrey M. McDonald.
Cherished brother of Karen R. Sullivan and her husband, Brendan, of Norfolk, Daniel J. McDonald of Quincy, and Michael J. McDonald and his wife, Laura, of Norwood.
Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and members of his extended family.
