Sol B. Garcia

Sol "Beatriz" (Restrepo) Garcia, age 62, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Medellin, Colombia on October 5, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Jaime and Ofelia Restrepo. Sol was raised in Medellin until the age of six when she immigrated to the United States, making home with family in Los Angeles, California. She attended the local public schools, graduating from John Marshall High School with the class of 1981.

When she was in her early 20's, Sol moved to Miami, Florida, where she took a job at Garcia's Caribbean Grill, and ultimately met her future husband. It was love at first sight for Luis, another employee at the restaurant, but after a couple of dates, they resolved to be friends. New job opportunities took Sol and Luis elsewhere and they lost touch, but ten years later, a chance encounter during a lunch break brought them back together. Sol married the love of her life, Luis, on September 18, 1999 in Miami, Fl, surrounded by their loved ones and friends. The pair, along with their two beloved children Phillip and Nicolle, remained in Miami until 2003, when they moved to Orlando, Florida. They later moved to Jacksonville, Florida for a period of time until heading to the northeast, landing first in Boston, before relocating to New York, and eventually settling back in Massachusetts in 2008.

Sol was a woman of the world, appreciating the value of real-life experiences. She traveled to over twenty-four countries, most recently visiting Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Mexico and Portugal. Spain was a favorite destination, taking the opportunity to see and experience the country many of her ancestors hailed from. Sol loved to experience new cultures and meet new people, immersing herself and appreciating the adventures she was on. Back in the States, Sol would travel to visit family, in LA, Texas, Florida, and Illinois, and once took a memorable road trip across the country with her brother Jaime and Ofelia.

Everywhere Sol went, she found friends. Her kindness and thoughtfulness forged deep connections, creating real friendships that she cherished. Sol never had an unkind word to say about anyone; finding the good in everyone and accepting them for who they are. She loved her family fiercely, and her friends often became her family. As did her students, with Sol working as a special education paraprofessional for the majority of her career. She made sure her students received everything they needed and treated them like they were her own children.

Throughout her life, Sol loved music, especially 70's classic rock and Colombian music. She went to hundreds of concerts during her lifetime, recently catching the Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, AC/DC, Elton John, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Genesis, The Babys, Journey and many more each time they came around. When she had a chance to go to Beatlemania or see Molly Hatchet & The Outlaws with her brother, she chose the latter and did not regret it for one moment. She shared her love of music with others, even converting Luis into a Bruce Springsteen fan.

Sol will be remembered for her beautiful soul, inside and out; she was a gregarious, vibrant, and charming woman. She had a love of rose wine, which she often shared with her "Sassy Ladies" friends group gatherings. A dog lover, she had many rescues over the years including her beloved Sammie and her late dog Goldy. She loved to spend time at the beach, soaking in the sun and enjoying the ocean breeze. At home, she looked forward to watching soccer, cheering on the English Premiere League on Saturday mornings. Shopping was a sport for Sol, finding the best deals and the nicest items for herself and her home. Sol also loved her bright red 1965 Mustang convertible. A birthday gift in 2020; it was her dream car, and she loved to have Luis chauffeur her around in it.

Beloved wife of Luis Garcia of Walpole.

Loving mother of Phillip Cardona of Jacksonville, Florida and Nicolle Garcia of South Boston.

Cherished sister of Jaime Restrepo and his wife Celeste of Peoria, Illinois.

Also survived by her nephews Adam and Eric Restrepo of Peoria, Illinois, her beloved rescue dog Sammie, her "granddog” Kaia, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended relatives, and innumerable friends that she considered family.
