Stephen Thoreau Robin

Stephen Robin passed away on September 1, 2023, following a short illness.

Born in the Bronx in 1942, Steve was the youngest son of Paul and Lillian (Citron) Robin. He attended Bronx Science and Hunter College before beginning his career as an educator and administrator in the New York City public school system. It was there that Steve met the love of his life, Mary McMahon, and the couple married in 1965. Their son Michael was born in 1966, followed by Daniel in 1968 and Kenneth in 1970. The family settled in Scarsdale, New York and lived there until 1992. Since retiring from their respective positions as principal and music teacher, Steve and Mary divided their time between Andes, New York; Naples, Florida; and Walpole, Massachusetts.

Steve felt deeply connected to nature, and particularly loved the Catskill Mountains. He never passed up the opportunity for a good pun, and is quite possibly the originator of the dad joke. He was a car buff, and recalled fondly his first car, a 1955 Oldsmobile 88. Steve was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a cherished friend to many and was beloved by countless former students.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons, Michael, Daniel, and Kenneth; and his grandchildren, Alina, Matthew, Jaelin, Alexei, Kaya, Annika, Benjamin, Joshua, Samuel, and Noah.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 1 to 4 PM at the Boston Beer Garden, 2396 Immokalee Road, Naples, FL 34110.

Donations in memory of Steve’s name are welcome; the family suggests The Catskill Center (43355 Route 28, Arkville, NY 12406; https://catskillcenter.org/donate).
