Susan Marie (Guerin) Campopiano, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at her home in Wrentham, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on September 26, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Hubert and Ruth Constance (Hodgson) Guerin.
Susan was raised in Cumberland, Rhode Island where she attended Cumberland High School. She was an avid swimmer, and her competitive nature earned her many awards as a member of the Sher-Le-Mon swim club. It was there that she met her future husband, Michael, who she began dating while in high school. Upon graduation from Cumberland High School with the class of 1968, Susan enrolled at the University of Rhode Island. There she studied Medical Technology and earned her Bachelor of Science in 1972.
Susan remained with her high school sweetheart throughout college, and on October 29, 1972, she wed the love of her life, Michael Anthony Campopiano, in her hometown of Cumberland. After a breathtaking honeymoon in Aruba, the newlyweds returned to their home in Cumberland and Susan accepted a position as a medical technologist at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She later worked for the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, Massachusetts, Waltham Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts, and the Bay State Medical Center in Western Massachusetts.
In 1980, Susan stepped away from the medical technology field for a new role - that of a mother. The Campopiano family quickly grew to four members, and in 1982, Susan and Michael moved to Walpole, Massachusetts to raise their two young sons. Susan enjoyed being a homemaker and was a very involved mother. She supported her boys’ interests, whether it was cub scouts or sports, and was always ready to lend a hand to whatever organization they belonged to. As their number one fan, Susan was always in the stands to cheer her sons on as they played baseball, basketball, and football. In fact, when one of the boys played football in college, she and Michael would go to all his games, including away games, venturing to Virginia, Louisiana, and Illinois to tailgate and cheer him on. In addition to raising her children, Susan was a dedicated driver for Meals on Wheels, helping to bring meals and friendship to the homebound within her community for multiple decades.
When they could, Susan and her family would adventure up north to Laconia, New Hampshire, where they had a vacation home in the Breakwater community. They enjoyed everything the White Mountains had to offer, skiing, local attractions like the Polar Caves, and time on the water. Susan was not the biggest fan of boating but would begrudgingly give it a try for her family, always willing to step outside of her comfort zone to take part in a family activity. Susan and Michael eventually sold their home in the Breakwater community, but in the mid 2000's returned to the shores of Winnepesaukee, purchasing a home on Paugus Bay in the Southdown Shores community in Laconia. They had adored the area from afar for many years, and when the time was right, took the opportunity to join the community and enjoy the Weirs Beach area once more.
In 2016, with their children grown and on their own, Susan and Michael moved to Norton, Massachusetts, and more recently, in 2022, to Wrentham, Massachusetts to a beautiful new home to enjoy their retirement.
Susan loved the great outdoors. She remained a devoted swimmer, taking laps in their pool every day that she could, with skills so sharp she cut through the water like a hot knife through butter. Birdwatching was a favorite pastime, as she always looked forward to seeing the hummingbirds and cardinals at her feeders. She also enjoyed taking long walks, allowing her to keep active and take in the local scenery. Susan loved to travel, visiting St. Martin, Aruba, the Grand Caymen Islands, Hawaii, and Mexico. Mexico held a special place in Susan's heart, as she dearly loved the culture and people she met there. Her adventurous side shown through on these trips, jumping into the tropical cenotes in Mexico and taking a helicopter ride through the lush canyons of Maui on a trip for their 40th wedding anniversary. She also traveled as part of the Eastern Mass Corvette Club, visiting Quebec, Montreal, Cooperstown, the Finger lakes, Long Island, and Mount Washington to name a few destinations, all with her darling husband at the wheel. At home, Susan had a lovely weekly tradition of meeting with girlfriends on Wednesdays for a few games of mahjong. She also loved to spend time with her family most of all, cherishing time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Beloved wife of 53 years. Loving mother of two sons, Peter Campopiano and Matthew Campopiano. Cherished grandmother of four grandchildren. Caring sister of Nancy Piedra, Michele Dynof, Edmund Guerin, and Richard Guerin. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Susan's Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Friday, February 13th, 2026, in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole, at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
