Virginia Mary DeCoste

January 20, 1926 — November 30, 2021

Virginia Mary (Boudreau) DeCoste, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts, with her family by her side. Born in Melbourne, Nova Scotia, Canada on January 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Laura M. (Boudreau) DeVeau. She was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1944. In 1947, Virginia took a position with the Kendall Company in Walpole, working as a switchboard operator.

Virginia married her beloved husband, Clifford Joseph DeCoste, on June 6, 1948, in Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole. Following their wedding, the couple made their home together in Key West, Florida, while Clifford completed his service with the Merchant Marines. Following his discharge, Virginia and Clifford returned to Massachusetts, making their home for a short time in Walpole before settling into their home in Sharon in 1956. After returning home, Virginia took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her son, Paul. As Paul grew up, Virginia resumed her role at the Kendall Company, working for many years until her retirement in the early 1990s. In her retirement, Virginia looked forward to any opportunity she had to volunteer. She regularly helped out at the Walpole Senior Center, Norwood Hospital, and with many community outreach groups through her church, Our Lady of Sorrows.

While she worked hard, Virginia knew how to have a good time. She was a longtime member of the 99ers, a group of lifelong friends who met for lunch at the 99 Restaurant to discuss upcoming travel plans. Virginia traveled throughout the United States and Caribbean with her friends, making many memories along the way. Her traveling did not end with the 99ers, as she looked forward to her annual summer trip back "home" to Nova Scotia, visiting her extended family. Back at home, Virginia loved to shop and was always on the lookout for a great bargain in stores, flea markets, and yard sales. She always found the perfect gift for every member of her family and was delighted to present them with the item on birthdays or holidays.

Beloved wife of the late Clifford Joseph DeCoste.
Loving mother of Paul J. DeCoste and his wife, Laurel, of Attleboro.
Cherished grandmother of Clifford Joseph DeCoste of Attleboro and Carl William DeCoste and his wife, Missy, of Mendon.

Also survived by her nieces, Janet Roberts, and Dianne Clark.
