Virginia M. Smith

Virginia M. (Wolf) Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022, at her home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary J. (Smith) Wolf. She was raised in West Roxbury graduating from Jamaica Plain High School with the Class of 1951.

She worked at Boston Edison where she was for fifteen years. During this time, she met and married her beloved husband, Walter B. Smith on May 7, 1966. They settled in Walpole making their family home where they raised their sons Stephen and Scott. Having a knack for numbers, Virginia continued her career as an accountant at the Colgate Corp. There she devoted another 15 working years before her retirement in 1999.

Virginia spent many years dancing at the Gertrude Dolan Dance Studio in Jamaica Plain. Always wanting to help others, she volunteered her time with instructing CCD classes at Blessed Sacrament. When her sons were boy scouts, she was a den mother. She loved helping the group carry out the activities and adventures that were in the Scout's handbook. Virginia enjoyed the outdoors. Having a green thumb, she tended to her gardens to which she took such pride in. She spent a lot of time in her backyard and had an appreciation for the pool that her husband installed for her and the kids. Virginia was an avid reader and during her downtime could always be found with a book in hand. Most of all, Virginia loved her family, her husband, her sons, and her grandchildren, whom she would spend time with whenever she could.

Devoted wife of the late Walter B. Smith. Loving mother of Stephen H. Smith of Paxton, MA and W. Scott Smith and his wife, Kathleen of Kaneohe, HI.

Cherished grandmother of Kyle G. Smith and his wife Olivia of North Grafton, MA and Evan B. Smith of Paxton.

Caring sister of Marilyn H. McMahon of Walpole, MA.

Adored aunt of Lynne Payne of Walpole, MA, Karen Henry of Canton, MA, and Christine Sullivan of Foxboro, MA.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Virginia’s visitation on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 4 to 7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 10:30 AM.  Interment will take place in Saint Francis Cemetery.
