Vivian Plimpton Salomaa

Vivian Gail (Plimpton) Salomaa, age 87, peacefully passed away in the early morning of July 27, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 14, 1938, she was the daughter of Henry and Grace F. (Vivian) Plimpton. Vivian was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts and enjoyed all her summers at the beach in Marshfield. After graduating from Walpole High School with the class of 1956, Vivian continued her education at Westbrook College in Biddeford, Maine.

Vivian married the love of her life, Risto Conrad Salomaa, on June 14, 1959, in the United Church in Walpole. The young couple initially made their married home in an apartment in Medfield Center, where they would welcome their first child, William. Several years later, Vivian and Risto purchased their first home in Medfield in 1962 to accommodate a growing family, eventually welcoming two daughters, Gayle and Leanne.

Vivian was devoted to her family and raising her children. As her children grew older, she began working part time at Kendall Mills in Medfield and later Holt’s Department Store in downtown Walpole. When her children entered middle school, Vivian joined Michael J. Connolly and Sons in Walpole, driving a school bus. Vivian loved her job as a school bus driver, making many wonderful, close friendships, and enjoying the drives each day. She was a loyal employee for forty years until her retirement in 2012.

Throughout the years Vivian enjoyed hosting gatherings, bringing her whole family together for the holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. After her retirement, Vivian developed a passion for photography. She had an eye for landscapes and scenic photography, filling books with beautiful images that she captured.
