William Dale Cady, Jr.

William Dale Cady Jr., age 51, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, on November 21, 1974, he was the beloved son of William Dale and Judith Ann (Shaughnessy) Cady. Bill spent the first few years of his life in Walpole, Massachusetts, before his family moved to Norton, Massachusetts, where he was raised.

From a young age, Bill was kind, compassionate, and inquisitive, with a genuine curiosity about the world around him. He was also very athletic, playing baseball and football, enjoying pond hockey in the winter, and spending his summers swimming at the beach. Bill had a lifelong love of the ocean. His parents fostered that love with annual trips to Goose Rocks Beach in Maine, where he happily spent entire days in the waves.

Bill graduated from Norton High School with the Class of 1993 and went on to attend Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. While there, he received a prank phone call from some classmates and their friend Sheri — a seemingly ordinary moment that would ultimately change the course of his life. Bill and Sheri shared an instant connection, though life would take them in different directions for many years.

Bill left Nichols College and made his home in Taunton, Massachusetts, where he continued to work locally. After carefully considering the direction he wanted his life and career to take, he moved to Providence and enrolled at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Always curious and eager to learn, Bill had a lifelong passion for education and continued to pursue knowledge throughout his life. That passion later led him to Northeastern University, where he earned a Master of Science in Leadership, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Financial Markets and Institutions.

Bill built a distinguished career in the financial services industry that spanned nearly 30 years, much of it centered in Boston. He began his career with Fidelity and went on to hold positions with DWS Group, Citi, Brighthouse Financial, Amundi US, and, most recently, Great Gray Trust Company. Over the years, Bill found his professional niche in the specialized world of fund governance and compliance, where his intellect, curiosity, and attention to detail served him well.

These were all important milestones in Bill’s life, but none compared to the one he experienced in 2008, when he became a proud father and welcomed his beloved daughter, Maeve, into the world. Bill was enamored with his baby girl from the very beginning and embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly. He returned home to Taunton to raise Maeve, with his parents close by to share in the joy of their granddaughter. Bill was deeply grateful for their support and guidance and treasured the memories the four of them made together.

Fatherhood brought Bill countless moments he cherished: giving Maeve her first bath, celebrating the loss of her first tooth, and taking her to the beach for the very first time. When he came home from work, the two would often head out together, Maeve in her stroller and Bill behind it, running through the neighborhood. As she grew, he made it a point to keep up with her changing interests. He took her shopping and to get her nails done, brought her fishing and to her first concert, and, above all, encouraged her to work hard, believe in herself, and be the very best she could be. Now, Maeve is proudly following in her father’s footsteps as she begins her own journey at Northeastern University in the fall of 2026, the same university where Bill continued his own lifelong pursuit of learning.

Years after their first meeting, Bill found himself unable to forget the charming prankster on the other end of that phone call. In 2014, he took a chance and reached out to Sheri. Although they had lost touch over the years, he could never quite shake the feeling that she had been the one who got away. This time, they decided to take a chance on one another — and they never looked back. Together, they brought their daughters into one family and built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless memories.

Bill married the love of his life, Sheri Alice Frosheiser, on September 26, 2015. The two eloped to Nantucket and were married at sunset on the private Atlantic beach at The Wauwinet. It was an intimate and romantic ceremony, where they exchanged vows they had written themselves and promised to love one another for eternity. After the ceremony, Bill and Sheri celebrated with a candlelit dinner at Straight Wharf Restaurant, where fellow diners joined in their happiness, sending bottles of champagne and desserts to their table in celebration of the newlyweds. Afterward, still dressed in their wedding attire, they walked hand in hand through town, taking in the sights and receiving congratulations and well wishes from people they met along the way. It was a magical evening filled with unexpected kindness from strangers and memories they would treasure forever.

Bill and Sheri made their married home in Merrimack, New Hampshire. In marrying Sheri, Bill also gained two daughters, Isabella and Emma, whom he loved as his own. He understood that building a family meant building his own unique relationship with each of the girls, and he found countless ways, both big and small, to make sure they knew how special they were to him.

With Emma, that meant teaching her how to ride a bike, bringing her into the city to spend the day with him at work, and making lots of delicious dinners together in the kitchen. He loved sharing experiences with her and being part of the everyday moments that became lasting memories.

As the oldest, Bella held a special place in Bill’s heart, and he always wanted to make sure she knew it. He took her on shopping trips to Coach and other favorite stores and spent hours with her talking about history and whatever else sparked their curiosity. Knowing Sheri rarely bought junk food, Bill once decided the girls needed the full experience and came home with an assortment of Hostess treats so they could try them all together.

Bill was also the kind of father who simply showed up whenever the girls needed him — even when it meant unexpectedly ending up in the water fully clothed, something that happened on more than one occasion over the years. When Sheri traveled for work, Bill would turn dinner at home with Bella into an occasion, preparing fancy meals for the two of them and making their evenings together feel special.

His support continued as the girls grew older. After Bella graduated from college and began figuring out the next steps in her career, Bill was there to offer guidance, help her make connections through his network, and encourage her as she found her way forward. He wanted all three of his girls to believe in themselves, pursue what mattered to them, and know that he would always be in their corner.

Their families blended beautifully, and the five of them shared countless adventures and traditions together. They traveled down the Cape, visited Rhode Island, headed north to Lake Winnipesaukee, took trips into Boston, and enjoyed day trips to places such as Yankee Candle Village. They went apple picking each fall and chopped down their own Christmas tree every year, creating traditions the family looked forward to season after season. And whenever Sheri was in charge of the directions, an ordinary outing had a way of turning into an unexpected adventure — often becoming one of the stories they would laugh about later. Through the trips, traditions, dinners, laughter, wrong turns, and everyday moments at home, the five of them built a loving family and a lifetime of memories together.

Bill's career with Brighthouse Financial afforded him the flexibility of working remotely, allowing him greater mobility and more time close to his family. In 2025, he joined Great Gray Trust Company as Fund Governance Compliance Lead. His new position brought him back to the city that had been such an important part of his professional life, and Bill and Sheri made the move back to Massachusetts, settling together in Boston.

Outside of his career, Bill’s greatest happiness came from the life and family he and Sheri had built together. He was an avid and dedicated runner who participated in 5Ks, 10Ks, and marathons throughout his life. At the time of his passing, he was training toward a goal that meant a great deal to him: qualifying for and running the 2027 Boston Marathon.

Running was only one of the many ways Bill loved to stay active. He enjoyed going to the gym, where the workouts and camaraderie he found were good not only for his body, but also for his soul. He loved skiing in the winter, kayaking in the summer, and, true to the little boy who spent entire days in the waves at Goose Rocks Beach, he was happiest with his feet in the sand, surrounded by his family, and the ocean in front of him.

Yet some of Bill’s happiest moments were also the simplest ones. At home, he loved relaxing on the sofa with his family, watching movies, and making dinner together. He also loved sharing his passion for the New England Patriots with his family. Football games became something they all looked forward to—watching together, cheering them on, and celebrating the wins. Over the years, Bill passed that love of the Patriots on to the girls, giving them a tradition and a passion they will always carry with them.

He and Sheri shared a love of travel and exploring new places, making wonderful memories together in Italy, France, Ireland, and England. They also loved simply getting in the car and wandering the backroads of New England, where a wrong turn could easily become part of the adventure. Together, they had a long list of places they still dreamed of seeing and trips they hoped to take. Whether the journey took them across the ocean or just a few towns away, the destination never mattered nearly as much as being together.

More recently, Bill and Sheri had created a new Sunday tradition in Boston. They would walk through the city to discover a new coffee shop, order their drinks, split a pastry, and sit together talking before continuing their walk with their dog Rowan. It was simple, ordinary, and entirely theirs — the kind of quiet happiness Bill treasured most.

Bill was the beloved husband of Sheri Alice (Frosheiser) Cady and the loving father of Maeve Cady of Norton, Isabella Doucette and her partner, Konnor Mason, of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Emma Doucette of Merrimack, New Hampshire.

He was the cherished son of William Dale and Judith Ann (Shaughnessy) Cady of Plymouth, and son-in-law of Lorrie Frosheiser and her late husband, Roger Rainville, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and Ronald Frosheiser of Merrimack, New Hampshire.

Bill was the beloved nephew of Alan Cady and his late wife, Shirley; Clifford Cady and his wife, Barbie; Charles Shaughnessy; Jean Shaughnessy; and Stephen Shaughnessy and his wife, Dee. He was predeceased by his uncle Brian Cady; his aunt Janet Shaughnessy; and his uncle Arthur “Skip” Shaughnessy and his late wife, Irene.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kristin Worster and her husband, Philip; his niece Megan Bolduc and her husband, Josh; his niece Bridget Worster and her partner, Jesse Jesseman; as well as his beloved pets, Rowan, Scarlett, and Phoebe. He was predeceased by his beloved Eva.
