William D. Storey, III

October 22, 1942 — February 28, 2022

William Dean Storey III, age 79, passed away on February 28, 2022 at Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital, with his loving wife and son by his side. Born in Medford, Massachusetts on October 22, 1942, he was the son of William Dean Storey, Jr., and Edith Hine (Purrier) Storey.  He spent his early years in Acton, Massachusetts and later moved to Norwood, Massachusetts and graduated from Norwood High School. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Providence College.
 
After college, Bill served as a First Lieutenant during the Viet Nam War with the 116th Transportation Company in Cam Ranh Bay. He was honorably discharged in July, 1967. Following his discharge, Bill studied French Language and Culture at the Alliance Francaise in Paris, France and developed lifelong friendships with French and Swiss families. Bill was an ardent francophile and returned frequently to France.  After finishing his studies in France he pursued a career in banking in New York City and later returned to Massachusetts and took a position with the United States Postal service in Norwood, retiring in 2005.

Bill had a passion for choral, jazz, and theatre music. He was a talented singer, band leader and actor. He and his band mates enjoyed playing popular music at weddings, but he especially loved showcasing Frank Sinatra pieces.  He was also active in community theatre including the Winthrop Playmakers, The Norwood Theatre and The Footlight Club of Jamaica Plain. He had leading roles in H.M.S. Pinafore, Annie Get Your Gun, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Dam Yankees as well as many others. He was a member of the Providence College Glee Club, the New York Choral Society, and later in life, was a member of the Golden Tones and Senior Moments choruses.

Bill was an avid sailor who especially enjoyed sailing out of Fort Adams in Newport, R.I. He was an elegant Alpine and Nordic skier and a popular member of the Black and Blues Ski Club of Killington, Vermont.

Bill married his beloved wife, Virginia Ryan, on April 30, 1988 and welcomed their son into the world in 1990. Together they lived for 23 years in Westwood, Massachusetts. In 2018, Bill and Virginia moved to East Walpole, Massachusetts.

Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Virginia Ryan; his son, William Dean 'Billy' Storey, IV, of Walpole; his sister, Kay Storey Jamison and her husband, David, of Hillsboro, New Hampshire.  He leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many friends all over the world. He was predeceased by his mother, Edith Hine Purrier Storey; his father, William Dean Storey, Jr. ; and his brother, Jeffrey Storey.
 
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Bill's memorial service in the United Church, 30 Common Street, Walpole on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM.  At the request of the family the burial will be private. Bill will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 12:45PM..
