Angelina S. (Serio) Alden, age 82, passed away peacefully in her Sharon, Massachusetts home on Friday, February 7, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on October 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Capt. Sebastian and Mary (Palmisano) Serio. She was raised in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1955. Following her graduation, Angie worked in various capacities at Birds Eye Food in Gloucester.
Angie met her husband to be, Calvin F. Alden, through their friends Gloria & Joe, who set them up on a blind date in 1957. They were married a year later, on September 14, 1958, and together, they made their home in Sharon, Massachusetts. After their wedding, Angie took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. Once all the children were in school, Angie went to work for the Sharon Public School Department starting in 1969, at Heights Elementary School. Her career included positions such as aide, secretary, administrative assistant, summer school and after school program manager, and administration assistant to the assistant superintendent. She was well known and respected through-out the school system. Angie wrapped up her career with the adult education program, retiring in 2017, after 48 dedicated years of serving students of all ages in Sharon.
In her down time, Angie loved to knit. She made countless afghans, baby hats, sweaters, and mittens for her family and friends over the years. As a voracious reader, Angie was always on the hunt for a new book to enjoy, often visiting the local library to find a new treasure. She had a wonderful relationship with her husband, Calvin, and the two took many trips together, visiting their family in Wisconsin every summer, cruising around the oceans, attending Navy reunions across the country, and taking two very special trips to Italy. Back at home, Angie cherished time there with family and friends. She spent hours in her kitchen preparing for the meal, but was most happy knowing everyone was together and well-fed. Family was most important to Angie, as were the traditions of her parents and grandparents. She ensured that her family was always represented at Saint Peter’s Fiesta in Gloucester and began hosting her family in her home for the Feast of Saint Joseph. Most recently, Angie enjoyed sitting out front watching and listening to the neighborhood children play, and visiting with those that strolled by. Children were the light in Angie’s life, and she was so delighted with the birth of every new grandchild and now great grandchildren.
