Born in Malden, Massachusetts on March 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Mary (Kelley) Molloy. At an early age, John's parents brought him to their home country of Ireland, settling in Kylesalia, Kilkieran, County Galway. Three years later, in 1952, John returned to the United States of America, enlisting in the United States Army, proudly serving his country. He went on to make his home in Melrose before moving to Roxbury, continuing his career as a stone mason, working for various companies.
John married his beloved wife, Mary T. Ford, on February 17, 1954 in the Mission Church of Roxbury. They later moved to Dedham, Massachusetts, where John founded his stone mason company, J&M Construction, with his wife Mary, in 1956. John moved his family to West Roxbury, where they spent 11 years, before settling in the home he built in Sharon, Massachusetts in 1972.
